Pretty like this

Late lunch out with workaholic colleagues, I guess I should be grateful that I still got to eat, better late than never, right?

A colleague friend who had an accident a couple of days ago said her jaw hurts. I asked her if the airbag had hit her in the face?

"If the airbag hit me in the face, do you think I will still be pretty like this?"

She gestured to her face while saying that.

I had to ask her again if she had said what I heard she said. She confirmed it, without a hint of modesty.

Wah lau eh! Banyak beh pai seh lo!

Really, don't know whether it's shamelessness or confidence...

As an aside, we were making light of her accident by claiming it's due to her playing Pokemon Go while driving*, as everything can be blamed on Pokemon Go until the next hot thing comes out.

Making fun of whatever is the current hot that the masses are mindlessly crazily pursuing is what people like me, who are proud of being different to the masses, like to do. I would make fun of myself too if I happened to be one of the silly people. =P

* Don't! Seriously don't. Don't be an irresponsible fool who jeopardises other** road users
** I have no qualm with fools trying to kill themselves, it helps to raise the average level of the human being's intelligence... =P

Random behaviour for August 2016

Not sure if I have succeeded or failed in my July's impromptu resolution, as I mentioned in a previous entry, the first two weekends everything went as planned but the remaining two weekends my parents were back and the kids just glued to their grandpa.

Oh well.

This month's resolution was inspired by an amusing experience a few days ago, it's also putting in action the general resolution I set myself since the beginning of the year.

I sure have friends who can stir up a storm from just about anything, and it's pretty amusing how people (mis)interpret what I wrote and then went off on their own tangent which led to something entirely different from what I meant. I have no idea how they can totally missed the key operative words in a very short statement...

Interesting thought process that I think may have something to do with guilty conscience.

Anyway, for August 2016, my impromptu resolution, something that I have started two days ago, is: to not respond to or clarify any rumour and slander targeted at me, and any misinterpretation or twisting of my word and intent.

Because I can.

Softies

Everybody has their preference, and when it comes to teambuilding event, my preference is to do something that, well, actually builds the team. You know, something that involves people working together to achieve a common goal, something that promotes team spirit, that sort of thing.

To me, sitting down together to have a meal is not teambuilding, it's just tummy-building. Neither is movie watching.

Think about it, it's like a lunch meeting really, where we sit down together and eat some food. Granted we probably won't be talking about work but you never know. Then instead of listening to whoever is presenting his or her agenda in a meeting, we sit in a darkened room watching movie producer presents his film on a big screen.

That's teambuilding? Really?

If it is teambuilding in someone's definition, it sure is a super boring one in my opinion. But then again, I don't consider that teambuilding.

When deciding the teambuilding event for this quarter, things started off well with many fun activities involving teamwork on the voting list: both outdoor and indoor physical and mental challenges and activities, a musuem tour (huh?), and the awful lunch & movie tummy-building option.

First round of voting ended with a tie between an outdoor physical challenge course and the lame tummy-building, with some minor votes on other options. So a second vote was held to decide whether we are going teambuilding or tummy-building.

Then the well-known food lover made his move. All it took was for him to send a discouraging e-mail dissing the physical challenge course and tada! My fellow teammates simply gave up and opted for the tummy-building. My goodness, so easily swayed!

Why oh why do they not even want to at least try and experience for themselves? So what if we can't complete some of the challenges? At least we have tried, right? You don't usually go to this kind of place on your own, you know? It's a place for group of people.

Wasted opportunity, such a shame.

*Sigh*

Bunch of softies.

This month's impromptu resolution is to have a LEGO session with the kids every weekend. I decided to have something with a continuous theme instead of unrelated creation from week to week.

So I created LEGO RPG, something that we can make the pieces together then play with what we have created. ^_^

the pieces for the jungle module

Based on my gaming experience, I provided the general framework and game system to use, then I got the kids involved deciding stuff like health, damage, speed, et cetera. Basically we have a group of heroes killing monsters, getting loot, gearing up, and eventually facing the big bad boss.

For heroes, we have the typical warrior, rogue, cleric and mage. We decided on class specific item and spell upgrades, which will come from loot. Monsters will depend on the module, the idea is to have a different module every week.

we used the big table as our play field

Hsiang suggested that the first module to be in the jungle, with a giant gorilla as the boss monster, and we came up with a big cat, spider and snake as the minions. And so we went about making the necessary pieces: the items, the monsters, and trees as location marker.

Took us the first weekend to came up with the system and to get the pieces for the first module done. We played the first module on the second weekend, making minor modification on the fly when the die roll didn't produce any monster encounter. Everything depends on die roll, you see.

image for illustration purpose only, encounter at each location (tree) is based on die roll

Well, I guess some balancing is required, the heroes basically steamrolled the minions and not seriously challenged by the boss. The kids had fun anyway, winning is always fun I guess.

As the game master and the person who controls the monsters I think the monsters need buffing. Their health definitely needs to be increased so they don't get one-shot killed, maybe should think about multiple monsters encounter instead of just one. But I am glad the system works, just need some balancing.

that 'snake' is about 3 human height in length according to scale

The second module is supposed to be in the mountain region with a volcano, lava related monsters, and a dragon as the big bad boss. But it hasn't happened because, well, their grandpa is back and they are glued to him during the weekends...

Silky tofu skin

Got home in time to have dinner with the whole family today. =)

Half way through dinner, wifey told me Young has a pimple.

"What?!! But he is not even seven yet." It felt a bit ridiculous to me.

"There, it's there on his face." Wifey pointed out the spot on Young's face.

It's on his chin, just underneath the lower lip, bang in the middle.

Hsiang, eager to tell, said, "it's because didi always have food stuck on his chin when eating."

Then wifey caressed Young's cheek and said to him, "oh no Young Young, your face is not smooth anymore."

To which Hsiang said, "mommy, now only you and I have silky tofu skin."

And we all laughed.

Time consumer

YouTube is an incredible time consumer.

I was listening to a song on YouTube and noticed a link to another song that I like, so I checked it out after the current song was done.

Then there are many more links to some other songs that I also like so I clicked on those as well.

And at some point, links to entertainment news and snippets appeared so I checked those out...

By the time I realised I have spent way too much time on YouTube surfing, the afternoon is gone.
