Young archer in the making

I wouldn't be surprised if Miss Weekend no longer wanted to see me and would like to slap me around the globe after the blatant disrespect I showed her this weekend.

Woke up at some ungodly hours both Saturday and Sunday to attend Hsiang's archery competition.

Sorry Miss Weekend, I promise I will sleep in, and sleep in good, next weekend. Unless there is an archery session next Saturday then I will disrespect you again and pay back on Sunday.

I probably have to sleep the whole day to pay back... =P

Anyway, Hsiang's first archery competition, both Saturday and Sunday, at Nibong Tebal, wifey and I were there.

Let's just get this out of the way: the organisation of the competition sucked big time so there was a lot of unnecessarily wasted time. That's all I am going to say on that front. Okay, maybe just once more: el-sucko-big-time-o!

So, Hsiang joined the under 11 years old category, they shot the 20 metres distance, large target face. There were 23 boys in the under 11 years old male cetagory.

He shot 72 arrows in two 36 arrows sessions on Saturday. Each session had six rounds, each round 6 arrows. Hsiang scored 200 out of 360 in the first session and 190 out of 360 on the second, for a grand total of 390 out of 720.

He was rank number 11 in his first and second sessions but as there were some large variations in rank 8 and 9 so he ended up as 10th as the final rank.

the 11 years old or younger top archer is better than me on average compared to my most recent 20 metres -_-

The top 16 archers from Saturday went through to the Sunday elimination round, where the 1st rank went head to head with the 16th, the 2nd with 15th, 3rd with 14th and so forth.

Hsiang ended up paired with rank 7th, who happened to be the only other Chinese in the category and who was representing the same Penang area. Basically, Hsiang was paired with a teammate.

The elimination round was a shoot out in five rounds. Three arrows per round, winner of each round gets 2 points, first to 6 points win. Tie is 1 point each, and tie after five rounds will go into a single shoot out tie breaker where the closest to X wins.

Hsiang's Sunday's elimination round with his teammate ended up causing more anxiety and excitement for the parents and other teammates compared to the archers. The two of them were doing their Baymax fist punch-shake thing every spare time they got and was jumping and hopping around after their shot. Not a care it seemed.

The other teammates (and us parents, of course) grouped around to cheer for them and they sure entertained us fully by pulling a lead on each other one after another for the first four rounds.

Hsiang won the first round and the teammate won the second round, then Hsiang won the third and the teammate won the fourth, so they went into the fifth and final round while other pairings either ended at the third round or the fourth.

Hsiang lost the fifth round so that's game over for him.

We didn't expect him to win, we just wanted him to have the experience, he had only shot at 20 metres two or three times after all. We think he did good.

But he didn't want to stay back to cheer for his teammates, he wanted to leave soon after he was eliminated. Wifey said he was sad and disappointed.

I don't know if that was the reason he didn't want to stay and watch, but I do know for sure that I am sunburned pretty well toasted and tanned.
