Tidbits

Tidbits I heard on air or seen on news recently:

Who needs war when you have Malaysian drivers?

About 6284 deaths involving traffic incident in Malaysia in year 2007. The MyFM DJ was joking about not needing war, just need Malaysian drivers, the fatality is higher.

Funny, and yet sad. Too many irresponsible, selfish and rude drivers, it's a bloody shame!

Honestly, just because you pay the road tax doesn't mean you own the road. Vehicle manufacturers can probably sell special edition no signal light vehicles to some road users and they wouldn't know the difference, these idiots don't use their signal light anyway!

Let's eat our gold encrusted 200 course meal while we talk...

Security, transportation, accomodation, 18 course meals, and other things that burn money amounting to 600,000,000,000 Yen (RM18,000,000,000+) to facilitate leaders from eight rich countries to merely talk about climate change, global food crisis, poverty, et cetera is definately the way to show the world you meant business...

... not.

That's the amount spent in 2008 G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit.

Think how much good it would do if that humongous sum of money was actually used in real actions instead? Poverty eh? Food crisis eh?

Bloody hypocrites.

Come on, have the balls to remove balls

Cut off the testicles of habitual rapists? Hell yea! The person who gets that law through gets my vote next election.

Once is already bad enough, these reoffenders should be thrown into jail where some "brokeback mountain" action would be forced onto them, let them experience it from the receiving end.

Then cut off their balls.

Those scumbags can rot in hell as far as I am concerned. Waste of oxygen.

Too snobbish for common terms

When you were supposedly representing your people in cabinet or parliament meeting but you were actually dozing off and got caught doing so, you don't admit it or even use the common term of "fishing".

You say you were practising Yoga instead.

Have no clue what I am talking about? No worries! Many ways around this, two suggested here:
(1) who cares, CK doesn't know what he is talking about most of the time anyway...
(2) go catch up on news, perhaps?

I would go with (1). =)

Mangoes No More

Father sold his corner lot house in Bayan Baru. If all went as planned, the house will no longer be his property from mid of July.

That house holds a lot of memories, I spent most of my youth there.

The house has gone through many transformations. There used to be a hole in the wall between kitchen and dining area, which was eventually sealed. The garage has been transformed into a big room, the lounge extended along with it.

Flooring changed, doors and windows changed, front of the house changed from grass land to cement. I remember those.

Garden that was our football field, badminton court, BBQ place, et cetera

The garden has changed so many times I can no longer remember when we had what.

There used to be two sizable "artificial hills", one directly in front of our front door shielding the house from nosy passersby, and the other in the garden.

They were gradually reduced in size through the years. The front one disappeared completely when the cementing of the front of the house occured. The one in the garden shrank to about one-forth it's original size.

I learned how to ride a bicycle in the garden. It might well be in that house that I learned roller skating too. The one with two front and two rear wheels per side (quad skates), not the fancy single line wheels thingy (inline skates).

Vege corner that has provided all the vegetables we need and more

We used to have many fruit plants, which also reduced in number as the years went by.

We had pineapple, guava, watermelon, banana, jambul, and I think it was a longan tree that never bore us any fruits.

And of course, the mango trees. Good old mango trees.

I will miss the mangoes. I love mangoes, and the home grown ones were simply the best, they were the only fruit I missed when I was in England all those years.

Good grief, I will miss the mangoes sorely. =(

Father used to conduct class here, and he is good at it

Close friends of mine had their fair share of memories in the house too. After all, we spent many a nights chatting to the wee hours, recording silly album, playing table top game... The parties, the gatherings, the fun, the tears.

The good old days.

Oh well...

Damn, I will miss those mangoes! =(

虫言鸟语续集

在我创造这超强的字时,我脑海里的概念是鸟为主体虫为配体的。

非也非也根据某高人之见,该是虫为主体鸟为配体,此高人还有图为证…

呃…

强!

More Leaves for Bookworms (June 08)

Managed to read two novels in June, both Dragonlance, volume 1 and 2 of The Raistlin Chronicles.

Enough said.

What lar! That alone is enough to mark them as must read mar! What do you mean it's just me?

Oh well. =P

Volume 1 of the chronicles is titled The Soulforge, written by Margaret Weis.

The story of the Majere twins when they were young were told in this novel. About young Caramon and Raistlin running about Solace fighting imagined foes, and their half sister Kitiara plotting and eventually leaving town to seek her own future.

It covers a wide span of time, from when the twins were little kids, to how they met some of the Heroes of the Lance, to the passing of their mother, up to when the companions seperated at the end of The Meetings Sextet and ended with Raistlin taking his test.

Raistlin's test was described in details, as well as his adventure to exposed the fake God that nearly got him killed.

Superb writing from Margaret, as usual.

Volume 2 of the Raistlin Chronicles is called Brothers in Arms, by Margaret Weis and Don Perrin.

This novel picks up the story after Raistlin's test in the Tower of High Sorcery. It entrails the time when the twin's picked up their experiences working as a team. How they were trained and obtained their skills working as mercenaries.

The twin's half sister Kitiara's path towards the darkness was told, as well as the tale of a rogue red dragon that disobeyed the Dark Queen. It also touched on things to come futher down the time line.

Here's an excerpt that I like from Brothers in Arms:

"Everything happens for a reason. Your brain may not know the reason. Your brain may never figure it out. But your heart knows. Your heart always knows."

Both these novels let us delve deeper into the enigma that is Raistlin, they let us understand him more through the encounters he went through. I highly recommend them to Dragonlance readers who just can't get enough of Raistlin.

Now reading: Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy
Contemplating: reread The Chronicles of Narnia so I can ridicule the movie version

Skillz

A friend told me the reason why his blog has more readers and almost all his entries received many comments is simply because he has skill.

In other words, I have no skill.

Oh well...

Want to learn mad blogging skillz!

Welcome to the Club

Yeoh the Evil laptop owner, the Boogie Master*, the Ultraman Cosmos, the Super Engineer with extensive engineering experience™ (e³), et cetera et cetera, has become a father as of Saturday, 21nd June 2008.

Congratulations!

Well done Mrs Yeoh, we all know you did all the hard work giving birth to your lovely daughter while Yeoh fainted at first sight of blood. =)

Welcome to parenthood, bye bye to private time and sleep! Muahahahaha!!

If you need a hand in coming up with baby name, I know a few creative minds. Do note that I shall bear no responsibility whatsoever for the ruining of your baby's life if you took up the offer and consult said loonies.

=P

* I did not invent any of these nicknames, Yeoh came up with them himself and I shall post the proof to this particular nickname when I dig through my instant messages archive.

Stay tuned.

EDIT: can't find the IM chat log, bummer. =(
