I would love to...

I would love to come home to a cheery, welcoming and loving family.

If that's too much to ask for, I would love to come home to a harmonious family.

If that's still too much to ask for, I would love to come home to peace and quiet.

I would love to have that loving hug, that genuine happy smile all round, that peace and quiet in the house.

Why do I always come home to raised voices, loud arguments, sharp scoldings, and angry faces?

How can one stay positive if all day long, at work and at home, there's only negativity?

Is there a sanctuary for a tired soul?

Let It Go

There are many songs and soundtracks from Disney's animated film Frozen but I think the most popular by far is Let It Go.

It has been sung in many languages, some proper, some hilarious. Many people singing it and making videos of it, with many more jumping on the bandwagon every day.

And it has finally invaded my home.

The kids love it, the elder son knows the full lyrics and the younger is learning fast. Wifey bought a music CD and plays it in the car everytime. Wifey started playing it on piano too.

It's madness, the Let It Go madness.

Walk the Plank!

You know, market is bad, companies all over doing headcount reduction, firing people left and right.

Predictably instead of firing that lazy manager who gets a fat pay cheque every month doing nothing of value whatsoever, it's the twenty employees actually doing the job who get the shaft, since it takes the combined salary of twenty working employees to make up that manager's fat pay cheque.

It's the same for pirates, and that's the background story for the game Walk the Plank!

Okay, I just made that up, the game background story isn't exactly that. =P

Anyway it's close enough: captain pirate only wants two pirates left from his pool of lazy and slow-witted crew, the rest of the pirates in that worst of the worst group are sent off the plank as Kraken food.

Walk the Plank! is a fun and easy to learn game for three to five players. Each player starts with three pirates and the aim is to be the one with at least a pirate alive by the end of the game.

two pirates in Kraken's belly

Game ends when there are only two pirates left, meaning it can either be a single player with two pirates or one each from two players.

What do we do to keep our pirates alive? Well, we push others off the plank, of course! =P

And we do that by strategically playing our cards. The cards represent predetermined actions that we have to follow through in sequence even if they are actually detrimental to our pirates.

That's actually the fun and hilarious part, seeing your pirate suicidally charged off the plank, hehehe. Okay, maybe it's only funny if you have a wicked sense of humour like I do.

a good time to retract the plank and send the two pirates to Kraken

There are more actions than simply shoving each other, there are pulling, dragging back, randomly running around, retract or extend the plank and more, giving a good mix of strategy. Some cards cannot be played twice in a roll and we can only ask our pirate to charge as the second or third action.

I guess the only downside is that this is an elimination game, if you got ganged up on (like I did), you would be out of the game in the first few rounds and you would have to wait for that game to end before you could play again.

That said, it's a relatively quick game so the wait shouldn't be too long. The listed play time of 20 minutes is pretty accurate. For our virgin gaming session yesterday, the four of us managed to get five games in about 1.5 hours.

Fun, quick and easy game, all you need is a group of geeky fun-loving, easygoing friends. Sense of humour is a plus, wicked sense of humour an icing on the cake. =P

Mayday Games should feel free to send me more of their games for review and advertisement. =)

Random Thoughts

This was drafted on 18th of February 2014.

I would like to write about the food in that Indian restaurant, a sort of review but I don't want to end up like an advertisement.

I would like to make a video clip on how to play Munchkin so the new players I managed to rope in can get into the game faster.

I would like to recreate the BattleShip card game in Microsoft Excel just for the sake of it.

Oh, I would like to finish recreating Forbidden Island board game in Microsoft Excel, a project I started a few years ago but never quite finish.

I would like to make sweeping and mopping the floor while wifey gets the kids to bed a routine since that's supposed to be wifey's language of love. Also she would have more time to spend with me then. ^_^

Ready to go home

Two weeks.

Almost over.

Worthwhile?

Hmm... Not the best of timing, that's for sure.

Extension?

Please don't.

Tired. Just tired.

I am ready to go home.

Really I do.

Travel, meh!

Left home on Saturday morning, after 46 hours, I finally checked in to the hotel at my destination.

And people wonder why I don't like to travel.

For the record, I like the sightseeing part of travelling, but not the getting from one place to another part, especially the waiting in transit part.

46 freaking hours, no thanks to a long delay at the very first flight due to them upgrading their system and they didn't have the sense to call in more people to man more counters to speed up the manual check-in process.

So the flight didn't take off until 3.5 hours later, the time it should have landed.

Needless to say I missed both my connecting flights, and got re-routed a longer flight path that included an uncalled for overnight stay with only a wink of shut-eye of 4 hours.

And got to my destination a day later than initially planned.

Bollocks.

Of course, I am just going to say this is all because I was flying with a certain person, else everything would have been smooth. =P

No fooling this year

Since 2009 I tried to come out with something on April Fools' Day. Just for fun.

Unfortunately this year I am simply not up to it, my heart is not in it since I am in one of my many depression bouts.

I do, however, had a rather funny chat session last weekend and I think it's a suitable replacement for the occasion.

First, let me lay down the disclaimer since I am a responsible blogger/net-citizen. Erm... ya. =P

Warning: 18SX, those sensitive to jokes on male genitalia should stop reading now.

Also, contains English, Mandarin, Hokkien, Malay in true Manglish style. ^_^

If you believe what was said in the chat, then... I would have to change the title of this blog entry. =P
